What's It Like? 

Our well-established, exclusive seaside adventure centre is just 600 metres from Hauteville-sur-Mer plage, a beautiful 3km sandy beach. This peaceful and authentic French town offers you a safe & relaxed environment from which to enjoy an excellent residential, rich in adventure & culture.

Our activity centre in Hauteville has been popular for over three decades, with many schools returning year after year.

Choose from a 5 or 6 night programme that includes exciting activities from rock climbing to kayaking as well as Normandy’s most popular visits including Mont st Michel, Arromanches 360 Cinema, Bayeux Tapestry and local Goats Cheese Farm.

Here you will benefit from your own private Acorn village, with exclusive dining marquee. With standing height tents offering comfortable beds, hard flooring and a few extra comforts for teachers, this feels more like glamping than camping! And with only two groups on the centre at any one time, our small & friendly centre offers you a more personal experience.

Schools love our Hauteville Centre because of its quiet location and the privacy it offers each group.  Here you are accommodated in your own private Acorn village that feels more like glamping than camping, with your own exclusive dining marquee.

With capacity for just two schools at a time, this is a small & friendly centre and the ideal choice for those seeking a more personal experience.

Each village is laid out in a horse shoe shape and accommodates up to 60 people in up to 22 pre-erected tents.  Pupil tents include four raised beds with mattress and are standing height, with hard flooring. Teacher tents include two timber raised beds, electricity, fridge, lighting and wardrobe.

On-site facilities include:

  • Separate male & female toilet & shower blocks
  • Private toilet and shower facilities for adults
  • Disabled toilet/shower
  • Volleyball areas for free time
  • Playing field next to the centre

Normandy Excursions (Northern France)

Local towns and beaches

The closest town to the centre is Hauteville-sur-Mer, just a five minute walk away. There are often markets on in the town, and there are local shops to explore. The beach sandy beach in Hauteville-sur-Mer is 3km long and a great place to visit for games and relaxing in free time. Groups often choose to visit Granville, which is not far away by coach and is a lovely town to visit. With its long beach and good array of shops it is great for a relaxing afternoon. Granville is also home to a popular Goats Cheese Farm which is included in our Adventure & Discovery programme and is also an option available on our Adventure programme, should you wish to choose this instead of an activity.

Arromanches 360

Located on the Arromanches clifftops, the Arromanches 360 Circular cinema dominates the remnants of one of the two artificial Mulberry harbours set up by the Allies. The Arromanches 360 cinema was created for the fiftieth anniversary of the D-Day Landings. It is located on the Arromanche clifftops and shows a 30minute film into the heart of the battle of Normandy.

Bayeux Tapestry

The famous Bayeux tapestry masterpiece, created in the 11th century, embroidered on wool on in a linen canvas is a registered in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. The tapestry is 70 meters long by 50 centimetres high and recounts the conquest of the Throne of England by William in Conqueror.

Mont Saint-Michel

A World Heritage Site, the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, perched atop a small, rocky island in a shallow tidal bay, is a true marvel. A small chapel was built on the site in the 8th century at the request of the Archangel St. Michael. The present Benedictine abbey dates back to the 13th century and was very important and influential in the middle ages. The abbey's church, cloister, gardens, the north-facing, Gothic buildings of ‘La Merveille’ (The Marvel), the narrow town streets, and the ramparts combine to make Mont-Saint-Michel one of France's most impressive sites. Guided tours of the abbey are available at an additional cost.

D-day Beaches & Cemeteries

Omaha Beach – The most famous American landing beach. There are still cliffs with German bunkers, with shell holes and overlooked by Colleville Cemetery.

Utah Beach – This is another American landing beach, where there is a museum nearby in a bunker (at an extra cost).

Gold Beach – This British landing beach is known for its artificial port, Mullbery harbour. This is where the 50th Infantry Division landed.

Juno Beach – This Canadian landing beach is where the 3rd Division came ashore. Here 30% of the landing ships were damaged or destroyed by the mines on the beach.

Sword Beach – This British landing beach is close to the Port of Caen.

Bayeux War Cemetery – This is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in France, with 4,000 British and Commonwealth war graves.

Colleveille Cemetery – This is an American cemetery and memorial over 170 acres with over 9,000 American graves.

D-Day Excursion Day Example:

Leave centre after breakfast Head over to Omaha Beach in the morning; take a look along the beach and at the nearby monuments. There is also time here to see the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville, if you wish to visit. Get back on the coach for a short journey toArromancheto the 360° to see a short film about the D-day landings. From here another short journey on the coach to Bayeux, where you can visit the Bayeux Tapestry and Bayeux War Cemetery. Alternatively walk around the picturesque Bayeux town, with its medieval center and cobbled streets with Norman-Gothic Cathedral is a lovely way to spend the remainder of the day. Return back to our Centre for evening meal and evening entertainments.

Cité de la Mer

Opened in 2002, La Cité de la Mer is a scientific and cultural complex built on the site of Cherbourg's famous Gare Maritime Transatlantique. With a mission to explain and share man's underwater adventure through Cherbourg's history, with its tradition of building submarines, La Cité de la Mer contains Europe’s tallest cylindrical aquarium as well as Le Redoutable, France’s first missile-launching nuclear submarine. The museum has specific help and assistance for educational visits.

St Malo Aquarium

In Saint-Malo, the Grand Aquarium allows you to discover life under the sea. With more than 600 different species of seas and oceans from around the world the aquarium is a popular place to visit. There are a number of different zones to make your way around, including a 360° aquarium where you will get a panoramic view of sharks, turtles and schools of fish.
